As a Mum to three growing kids, I know just how much stuff they accumulate over the years. It seems like it never ends! I always thought that as they grew older, they would have less to store as they outgrew their toys. But the reality is that they always seem to have more stuff than we have space to store it. Here are my tips for maximising storage space for your growing family.
Change your furniture
Make sure that the furniture you have works for your family’s needs. Think about how you could switch your furniture for more practical items. This could be switching to a smaller dining table that extends when you need it so that you have more space to move around. You might also want to change your bed and buy one with storage space underneath. Ottoman beds of divan beds with drawers give lots of storage space underneath the bed.
Make use of awkward spaces
Every house has awkward spaces that could be used more efficiently. One of the most common underused spaces is the area under the stairs. Why not add in some built in under stair storage to make the most of that space? You could add a cupboard to store coats and school bags and even add some pull out shoe storage to the lower section of the stairs to really make the most of the space.
Add fitted cupboards
One of the best ways to increase storage space in the home is to add fitted furniture. This is a great way to make the most of the space you have. Fitted storage furniture can be anything from fitted wardrobes in the bedroom, to fitted cupboards in the bathroom and even fitted bookcases and fitted TV units. With fitted furniture, you can utilise every inch of space from floor to ceiling, whereas free standing furniture doesn’t give you that luxury. You will need to have fitted units made bespoke to fit the space you have. Urban Wardrobes have some fantastic ways to create additional storage space with their fitted range (official web page – https://urbanwardrobes.co.uk/services/fitted-bookcases-tv-units).
Creating extra storage space in your family home doesn’t need to be complicated, but you do need to put a little thought into how to make the most of the space you have. When everything has a place, then it’s much easier to create a clutter-free home, and much easier for everyone to find things.
