How the world of BDSM has changed over the years

The world of BDSM certainly isn’t new, but popularity has definitely become more widespread over the years. BDSM dating actually dates right back to the 1800s when Sigmund Freud came up with the term sado-masochism! So it’s been around for quite a long time! Things have changed a little over the years though, and I wanted to take a closer look into the history behind BDSM.

People are more open these days

When we watch old period dramas, we do often see fairly raunchy scenes, with a giggling mistress who is prepared to do pretty much anything her master tells her. These scenes really would have happened back in the day, but in reality they probably weren’t talked about. Sex was something that was seen as a little taboo and only to be undertaken by married couples, even then it was only supposed to be a fairly vanilla affair. So, whilst BDSM activities definitely took place, it was strictly behind closed doors.

Today, many couples do still like to keep what happens in the bedroom strictly between them. But, it’s far more common for them to talk about it too. Girls get together and share their deepest and darkest bedroom secrets, whilst the lads pat each other on the back and congratulate each other for a successful BDSM conquest.

It’s far easier to find a BDSM date

Back when BDSM first became a “thing”, it was pure chance if you’d meet a willing partner. You couldn’t just put an advert out asking for somebody who wanted to meet up for a Subs and Doms Dominatrix kind of date!

These days, you can actually put that advert out there and share exactly what it is you want, without fear of being mocked or shamed. In fact, there are online dating sites dedicated specifically to setting you up with somebody who wants nothing more than a kinky night of BDSM.

It’s ok for women to be forward

These days, it is absolutely ok for women to be just as forward about their sexual desires as it is for men. In fact, more women than ever before are willing to put themselves out there and tell their partner exactly what they enjoy. This used to be seen as a complete no no and it just wouldn’t happen, particularly amongst “respectable” women. These days though, men actually want their partner to tell be open and honest about what they want. There’s actually nothing more attractive than a confident woman who knows exactly what she enjoys in the bedroom.

Handcuffs

So, whilst BDSM dating has been around for many decades, the world of subs, doms and BDSM fans has actually changed an awful lot during that time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a sadomasochistic relationship, in fact if it’s what you enjoy, then it’s important that you’re open and honest about it with your partner. If you’re a part of this world, then you’ve probably noticed these changes even in the short term too.
